ALL rules are standard indiana high school basketball rules

  • Tip Off (If both players touch the floor before tipping the ball into a teammates hands, it will result in a re tip)

  • 10 second half court violation (if a player does not get the ball across half court within 10 seconds, it will result in a turnover)

  • Jump Ball (If a player from opposite teams have control of the ball at the same time, it will result in possession arrow to decide which team receives possession)

  • Double Dribble (Once a player has started dribbling the ball, he or she cannot pick the ball up and dribble again without passing to another teammate first)

  • Carrying (If a player is dribbling and carries the ball, thus meaning placing his or her hand underneath the ball in the process of dribbling, it will result in a turnover)

  • Dead Ball (Dead balls will only be allowed if the ball goes out of bounds, a player is fouled, or if an injury has occured)

  • Injury Timeouts (If a player is injured during play, time will stop to allow the player to exit the court and seek medical attention)

  • Traveling (If a player has established a pivot foot after picking up the ball, he may rotate his positioning on one pivot foot, but may not switch or place his pivot foot in another location. If the pivot foot moves to another location from the current position, a traveling will be called. If a player takes more than 2 1/2 steps while dribbling or going for a shot, a traveling and turn in possession will be enforced)

  • Free Throws (Players around the lane may not enter the lane until the ball has touched the rim. If a player from the opposing team enters the lane before the ball hits the rim, another free throw will be awarded. If a player from the same team enters the lane, it will result in the loss of that free throw opportunity)

  • Charging (A player must set his or her feet away from underneath the basket and must be set, not moving in order to be awarded a charge. If a player is in the act of moving in front of the oncoming scorer, the charge will be called as a block free throws will be awarded)

  • Fouls (Each player will be allowed 5 fouls per game)

  • Technicals (Technical fouls will be called by the officials for arguments from coaches, players, and fans. This judgement is completely up to the officials. If a technical is called, all players will be asked to stand behind half court while the coach selects any of his players that are currently on the court to shoot 2 free throws, and then have possession)

  • Substitutions (A coach will be allowed to substitute as much as he or she would like, as long as players still have fouls to give. If a coach substitutes a player that has been fouled out of the game, a technical foul will be enforced)

  • 3 Second Lane Violation (If a player on the offensive team is caught in the lane for 3 seconds or more, it will result in a turnover)

  • Timeouts (Each team will be awarded 3 timeouts per half with 1 being a full timeout or a 1 minute timeout and 2 being 30 second timeouts)
